Types of Wet Lab Sinks:

  1. Epoxy sinks are ideal when acids and chemical compounds are used. It is very durable and difficult to damage, and is highly chemical resistant.
  2. Stainless steel sinks with 304 rating is durable and ideal for handwashing. It is used in wet labs that don’t use corrosive chemical compounds.
  3. Handsfree stainless sinks
    Hands free stainless steel 304 wet lab sinks are ideal for cleanrooms. These sinks can also be configured with handsfree soap dispenser and a hands-free hand dryer. In addition, the entire sink is one piece and comes pre-plumbed.

Considerations of a Wet Lab Sink:

  • Provide at least one ADA height (34″) sink for each lab.
  • Provide sinks with warm water. Often labs can be cold and employees can warm their hands when cleaning versus using cold water.
  • Sinks should be solid including the backsplash so there are not cracks where bacteria could develop.
  • Handwashing sinks are required in all labs, even if it isn’t a “wet lab.”
  • Sinks should be built to SEFA standards.
  • Locks can be installed on sink cabinets.
  • Select from either a drop in sink, an undermount sink or a stainless steel sink. You also can purchase standalone sinks that are replumbed.
  • Consider what size of sink is needed to wash the lab equipment that is being used.
  • Add a drain board in front or next to the sink to dry equipment.
  • Implement an eyewash station in the event a technician needs this.
